MANILA—When Twisted Minds Philippines decided to absorb the four members of Onic Nine Lives who decided to stay in the Philippines, questions emerged if they can bring their A-game that won them MDL Philippines Season 5 to the next level considering that the one-season experiment of AP Bren to take over Lazy Gaming ended up in an early exit.
The new core showed they can by stunning a title contender.
Twisted Minds PH delivered the first major upset of MPL Philippines Season 16, beating Team Falcons Philippines, 2-0, on Saturday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.
Game 1 was almost all Michael "MP The King" Endino as the starting jungler, one of the two holdovers from Twisted Minds PH's Season 15 roster, as he wrecked havoc using Lancelot, going 7-1-11 in the KDA stat line highlighted by a beautiful solo kill on Michael "KyleTzy" Sayson right inside Falcons PH's base.
Twisted Minds PH did not mind giving the two Lords to Falcons PH as their explosive team fight offense gave them the Game 1 win.
Game 2 saw Mico "Nosia" Guevarra struggling mid-game despite getting the better of "Super" Marco Requitiano early on, but just as he respawned from his latest death, he caught Requitiano with a Spear of Destruction that set up Endino's double kill on Requitiano and Rowgien "Owgwen" Unigo.
Guevarra then took down Angelo "Pheww" Arcangel, while Miguel "Sionnn" Alcantara found Ferdz Fernandez trying to teleport into the base inside the bush and killed him too.
With Sayson all alone to defend his base, Twisted Minds PH wasted no time in completing the late-game turnaround.
Twisted Minds PH jumped to first place with the win while sending Falcons PH down to fourth place with a 1-1 record.
