QUEZON CITY—Kukuys scored its first major win as a young DOTA 2 club as it became the new Philippine Predator League champion with a 3-2 win against erstwhile titleholder Execration in the grand finals on Saturday night at the SM North EDSA Annex Atrium.
Named after Philippine DOTA 2's "godfather", Carlo "Kuku" Palad, the star-studded crew, also consisting of Lewis Delos Santos, Julius "JG" Galeon, DJ Mampusti, and Armel Tabios, stole the thunder from the current powerhouse by completing a reverse sweep.
The deciding moment came right at the final team fight of the deciding Game 5 as Kukuys made great use of their buybacks and took down Justine "Tino" Grimaldo and Jinn "Palos" Lamatao in their retaliation just before the rubber match hit the hour mark.
Aware that Execration's main damage dealers will be out for more than two minutes because they have already used their buybacks, Kukuys did not mind the backdoor protection and took down the opponent's base to complete the "endable moment".
Kukuys took home PHP200,000 for ruling the Predator League PH tournament, while Execration settled for a PHP120,000 runner-up prize.
Although it missed out on a three-peat, Execration will still be part of the Asia-Pacific Predator League early next year in India, along with Kukuys.
Team Nemesis swept Interactive PH, 2-0, earlier in the day to secure third place and also book a trip to New Delhi.
