MANILA--With some Converge fans already entertaining thoughts about whether Juan Gomez De Liano would be good enough to become a rookie-MVP, June Mar Fajardo showed why he's the reigning top player in the PBA with a monster game that lifted San Miguel to a 96-90 win on Sunday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo.
The 6-foot-10 behemoth put up 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, 16 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks as he helped the Beermen take charge in the second half after the FiberXers took control of the first.
Juami Tiongson added 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting as SMB is now on a three-game winning streak after a 0-2 start to its title defense in the season-opening conference.
Schonny Winston led Converge, which fell to 3-2, with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and one steal off the bench.
Justin Arana added 19 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, while Balti Baltazar chipped in 14 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, and five steals.
Gomez De Liano, who tallied a double-double in three of his first four games in the PBA--two of which were triple-doubles--was held to only eight points on 2-for-10 shooting, four rebounds, and six assists.
