Abra pulls off 2nd straight escape act to near MPBL Finals sweep vs Quezon

BANGUED--The Abra Solid North Weavers bested the Quezon Huskers, 62-58, on Saturday to post a 2-0 lead in the 747. LIVE presents Manny Pacquiao MPBL 2025 Season National Finals at the Gov. Andres B. Bernos Memorial Gym.

Again given a tough fight by the Huskers, the North Division champion Weavers banked on Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman, and John Uduba in the last quarter to move within a win of sweeping the best-of-five series.

Abra pulled off a great escape to clinch Game One, 81-80, in overtime on Thursday.

Ildefonso, the MVP race pacesetter, posted 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 assists to clinch best player honors.

Brickman wound up 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Uduba contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds for the Weavers, who also drew 8 points and 2 assists from Marwin Taywan, and 7 points plus 3 rebounds from Ryan Batino.

Quezon, the South Division champion, got 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals from Ljay Gonzales, 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists from Alfrancis Tamsi, and eight points each from Ximone Sandagon and Christian Pagaran.

The Weavers extended their record winning streak to 35, including eight in the playoffs.

Pagaran drove in to level the count at 43, but Batino made three of four free throws, and Taywan knocked in a triple to push Abra in front, 48-43, after the third quarter.

Ljay Gonzales scored the first quarter’s last five points to knot the count for Quezon, 14-all.

Abra bunched seven points to move ahead, 23-19, but Pagaran drilled in two triples, and Gonzales added a basket and a charity to tie the count, 28-28, at the half.

The game was tight throughout, with 20 lead changes, eight deadlocks, and neither team erecting a twin-digit lead.

The Weavers will shoot for a sweep of the Finals in Game Three on Tuesday at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

If necessary, Game Four will be held at the same time and venue.
