Kayla Sanchez, Heather White go 1-2 in SEA Games women's 100m freestlye final

MANILA--Two nights after teaming up to make Philippine swimming history, Kayla Sanchez and Heather White dominated the women's 100-meter freestyle event in the Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the Huamark Sports Complex Aquatic Center in Bangkok.

Sanchez and White spilled their dominance in the said event from the relay level to the singles level by going 1-2 in the final.

Sanchez captured the gold after going first at 54.82 seconds, while White followed at 55.36 to capture the silver.

Singapore's Quah Ting Wen completed the podium by taking bronze at 55.6 seconds.

The final race saw the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia each fielding two representatives following their impressive performances in the heats.

Sanchez now has two golds, two silvers, and one SEA Games record already in her impressive run this edition.

Sanchez forged an alliance with White, Xiandi Chua, and Chloe Isleta on Wednesday night to rule the women's 4x100-meter freestyle relay, the first time ever a Philippine quartet won the gold in the said category.

Sanchez and White's 1-2 finish capped the best one-day medal haul so far for the Philippines in the SEA Games.

Entering the day already with five championships in the bag, the Filipino athletes more than doubled their output by getting six more golds to go up to 11 alongside 16 silvers and 35 bronzes.

The Philippines remained in fifth place in the medal tally below host country Thailand, now with 66 golds
