MANILA--Alex Eala may not need to hope that she and Venus Williams will make the quarterfinals in the ASB Classic singles to get their hands on each other.

The current world number 53 gets her shot at the former world number 1 sooner than she thought, as they will face off in one of the doubles showdowns scheduled for Monday in the said WTA 250 tennis event in Auckland.

Eala, who entered the singles tournament as the third seed, will team up with Iva Jovic, the fourth seed in the singles, in the said doubles clash.

Meanwhile, Williams forged an alliance with Elina Svitolina, the top seed in the singles division, for the battle against the Eala-Jovic tandem.

The Williams-Svitolina duo made it to the doubles event as a wildcard.

Despite both pairs not being seeded in the doubles, the said clash featuring current singles stars will happen at the center court of the ASB Tennis Centre, easily making it one of the main highlights for Day 1 of the main draw.

It is going to be a busy Monday for Jovic as she will first take on Gabriela Knutson in the first round of the singles tourney.

Eala will only make her singles debut on Tuesday against Donna Vekic in a showdown between players who could later see action in the Philippine Women's Open.
