PASAY—A huge flock of mostly female runners is expected to fill the SM Mall of Asia Complex here when the FCC Women's Run PH will happen right on International Women's Day on March 8.

Filipina CEO Circle, led by Nicole Dela Cruz, announced on Friday during the run's press launch at Olive Garden inside MOA that registration is now closed after reaching its target of having more than 16,000 runners join.

The said number of expected participants represents the meters needed to reach 10 miles, which will be the maximum distance for the FCC Women's Run PH's third edition.

According to Dela Cruz, a good chunk of this year's racers, which doubled the actual count from last year's staging, will be running for the first time ever.

"We're really happy to have first-time runners, so nakakatuwa kasi yun yung gusto natin: makasama yung mga first-time runners so that we can actually spark interest and jumpstart their running journey," Dela Cruz said.

Aside from the 16K run, runners can also join the 10-kilometer run, the women-only 5-kilometer and 3-kilometer runs, and a 1-kilometer run for kids.

For the third straight year, SM will partner with the FCC for the event.

"For many, many years now, we have actually been supporting and empowering women through many of our advocacies throughout the year," said Jonjon San Agustin, the senior vice president for marketing at SM Supermalls.

The race will begin and end at the MOA Complex while traversing major roads in this city as well as the adjacent town of Manila.
