PASAY--Winning his 13th PBA Best Player of the Conference award was not the only career milestone June Mar Fajardo achieved on Wednesday night.
San Miguel's gentle giant entered a rare milestone club whose original members have long been retired from the game.
According to Fidel Mangonon, the league's chief statistician, Fajardo got more than enough caroms in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals to make him the newest member of the 7,000 Rebounds Club.
The 6-foot-10 bruising center, who entered the game with 6,990 career boards, got his 10th rebound of Game 4 with 9:51 left in the third quarter.
Fajardo eventually finished with 16 caroms, hiking his career total so far to 7,006.
He joins fellow Cebuanos Mon Fernandez and Abet Guidaben as well as Jerry Codinera as the only players with 7,000 or more career rebounds in the PBA.
With Fernandez and Guidaben already retired from the game during the 90s and Codinera calling it a career in 2005, Fajardo is the only active player with 7,000 boards already.
Unfortunately for Fajardo, both his achievements ended in despair as the Beermen were blown out by the TNT Tropang 5G, 87-110, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
