MANILA--Willy Wilson is not the only one leaving the Phoenix coaching staff as the team revealed that Jamike Jarin is going out too.
The team confirmed on Wednesday that Wilson is stepping down as head coach, but it also announced that Jarin is resigning as its coaching consultant.
"After much evaluation, the Phoenix Fuel Masters have amicably parted ways with head coach Willy Wilson and team consultant Jamike Jarin, effective immediately. We thank Coach Willy and Jamike for their hard work, commitment, and professionalism through the years and wish them the very best in their future endeavors," the Fuel Masters said in a statement.
Wilson took over the head coaching job for Phoenix before the start of the season, as Jarin, who led the team to its last semifinal appearance in 2024, was reassigned to the consultant role.
However, the team struggled in the PBA Philippine Cup, missing out on the playoffs with a 3-8 record, which eventually led to a change in the coaching direction.
Current College of St. Benilde head coach Charles Tiu emerged as the frontrunner to take over the head coaching job.
However, in a tweet on Monday, Tiu said that he is staying as the Blazers' head coach ahead of the next NCAA season.
The Fuel Masters could be naming their new head coach very soon.
"The team will provide more updates in the coming days," the statement concluded.
