MANILA--Alex Eala is now left to defend the home turf for the Philippines in the Philippine Women's Open as Kaye Emana fell prey to Russian foe Tatiana Prozorova, 1-6, 0-6, in their Round of 32 clash on Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
In the match that started about four hours late due to rainy weather throughout the afternoon, Prozorova needed a little under 42 minutes to depose Emana, who actually managed to break her opponent's serve when she went error-prone in Game 5.
In Set 2, though, Emana racked up some errors of her own, including two double faults and a blown 40-15 lead in one game, as Prozorova played nearly flawlessly to complete the sweep.
"The very important thing was preparing on the mental side. I did well with this, as you can see in the score," Prozorova shared how she kept her mental focus despite the long wait.
She added that she is somehow used to the weather intervention already, as she even waited for eight hours for her match to finally start due to a storm.
On the other hand, with her PWO stint done, Emana will now focus on her upcoming UAAP season with the University of Santo Tomas beginning Feb. 14.
Emana is the reigning women's singles champion and MVP in the league.
