MANILA—Stefi Aludo missed out on making the last ride to the main draw of the Philippine Women's Open after bowing to Sakura Hosogi, 1-6, 2-6, in the final round of the qualifiers on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Hosogi, ranked 298th in the world by the WTA, imposed her will early on after racing to a 3-0 lead in Set 1.
Aludo somehow broke Hosogi's serve in Game 4 to finally get on the board, but the latter bounced back to end the set.
Aludo drew first blood in Set 2, but it was almost all-Hosogi from there as she completed the dominating win.
Hosogi joined fellow Japanese Miho Kuramochi, Peangtarn Pilpuech, and Viktoria Morvayova as the last four players to enter the main draw.
Hosogi found herself battling world number 84 Camila Osorio, the fifth seed in the WTA 125 event, in the round of 32.
