MANILA—Marcus Manalo was named the new president of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines.

ABAP announced the development on Wednesday night following the election of its new officers.

Manalo, previously the national sports association for boxing's secretary general, replaces Robbie Puno as the organization's chief.

Puno was elected as the new chairman, replacing Ricky Vargas.

Vargas, the current Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president, was honored for his previous ABAP leadership by naming him its honorary chairman.

Manalo has been with ABAP since 2013, first as the national boxing team's sports psychologist before taking over the secretary general post in 2021.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio was elected to ABAP's board of trustees, the only female to join the new board.

Also joining the board are new vice president Miko Vargas, also the president for aquatics, vice chairman Raul Daza, and new board members Arnel Casanova, Mark Burgos, Emilio Abelita, Oscar Moreno, and Reinaldo Bautista.

One interesting addition to the ABAP board is Alfrancis Chua, Vargas' deputy in the PBA board of governors.

The new ABAP board is tasked to continue the recent fruitfulness of the Filipino boxers in various meets as they brace for the road to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
