MANILA--Jerrick Ahanmisi reigned supreme in the PBA All-Star Skills Challenge as he basically completed a sweep of the two events he was eligible to play at on Friday night at the Candon City Arena.
The Terrafirma guard needed barely less than 25 seconds--24.94 to be exact--to rule the guard division of the obstacle challenge.
Ahanmisi beat Blackwater’s Dalph Panopio (26.97), TNT’s Rey Nambatac (27.94), Converge’s Juan Gomez de Liano (35.83), Titan’s Fran Yu (37.52), and San Miguel’s Juami Tiongson (50.7) to win his first individual award for the day.
Ahanmisi once again beat Gomez De Liano shortly after, this time in the three-point shootout as the former hit 30 in the final, highlighted by a 2-for-2 clip from the four-point range, against the latter's 18.
San Miguel's Marcio Lassiter, the league's all-time three-point king, settled for second place with 25 points.
“I'm so proud of myself because I work hard every single day, and I put my best out every day in practice and in the games. So God's just blessed me today,” said Ahanmisi.
The other side event winner was Meralco's Brandon Bates, who ruled the big man division of the obstacle challenge.
Bates clocked in at 22.86 seconds in the final, beating NLEX’s Brandon Ramirez (27.26) and Magnolia’s James Laput (45.69).
JM Calma, the erstwhile champ, was knocked out in the head-to-head phase.
