MANILA––Meralco opened its campaign in the PBA Commissioner's Cup on a solid note after drubbing Converge 109-88, on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo.
The Bolts bucked a slow start that saw the FiberXers take a 27-22 lead at the end of the first quarter and slowly pulled away the rest of the way.
Marvin Jones led Meralco with 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists, and one block.
CJ Cansino added 23 points on 8-of-9 shots, including a perfect 3-for-3 on twos and 2-of-2 on fours, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block.
Javee Mocon had a perfect debut for the team as he went 3-for-3 from the field for nine points off the bench with one rebound and two steals.
Brandon Bates also went perfect on his field goals with a 4-of-4 clip for eight points alongside five rebounds and three blocks off the bench.
Alec Stockton led Converge, which now dropped back-to-back games, including a Saturday night shocker against Terrafirma, wherein the team was blanked in overtime, with 18 points, one rebound, three assists, and three steals.
Balti Baltazar added 12 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Mikey Williams got the start as Juan Gomez De Liano sat out the game due to an apparent injury, but the struggles in his PBA comeback continued as he only had five points and four assists.
