MANILA—Basketball fans will get a chance to get the experience of playing like their PBA idols as the league officially launched its new esports app, PBA Court Kings.
The new app will become playable starting Sunday night, but fans can already download it through Android and IOS.
"By 8 o'clock (in the evening), makukuha na ninyo," PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said on Sunday during the app's press launch at Hotel Van Gogh in Candon.
The PBA Court Kings marks the league's return to the esports realm after three years, and Marcial said that about 70,000 fans have already pre-downloaded the app ahead of its launch.
"Maraming maraming salamat sa pag-suporta sa project na ito," said AC Valdenor, the chief executive officer of Dark League Studios.
Dark League, co-founded by Valdenor and PBA board vice chairman Alfrancis Chua, partnered with the PBA in making the app happen.
"Kung hindi sa boss namin, hindi magpu-push through itong project," Valdenor said of Chua, who acts as the gaming developer's chief marketing officer.
The PBA Court Kings will be played on a 3-on-3 format featuring the key players of each of the league's 12 member franchises.
However, Marcial said that major patch updates will come as time goes by.
"Ide-develop na namin yung limahan," Marcial bared one of the major changelogs to watch out.
