QUEZON CITY--Onic Philippines created some more separation from the stacked middle of the pack in MPL Philippines Season 17 after sweeping Twisted Minds Philippines, 2-0, on Friday night at the Victoria Sports Tower.

Onic Philippines, banking on a solid early game macro, survived a crucial Lord steal from Lee "Owl" Gonzales to take Game 1.

With Michael "MP The King" Endino still waiting to respawn, Gonzales, playing Moskov, connected on a Spear of Destruction right when King "Kingkong" Perez was about to seal the retribution to steal the evolved Lord.

However, Onic PH responded with a major clash win to restore order, and the team eventually overturned the situation to avert the late collapse.

The club continued to bank on the macro to build a solid gold lead against Twisted Minds PH in Game 2, but the latter still put up a gallant fight to hopefully try to spark another comeback.

The numbers game, though, caught up in the end as Kirk Gutierrez was left all alone to deliver the last hits to Twisted Minds PH's base to complete the sweep.

Onic PH moved up to 5-3, two matches ahead of Twisted Minds PH and Aurora Gaming Philippines, both dropping to 3-5 after the doubleheader, for third place and 2.5 matches ahead of AP Bren and Smart Omega.

Onic PH is now 1.5 matches behind Team Falcons Philippines for second place, which means a Day 1 bye as action shifts to the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan City from May 27-31 for the playoffs.
