MANILA—Converge put a stop to a surprise five-game skid that brought the team near the bottom of the PBA Commissioner's Cup standings by ripping Titan Ultra, 103-82, on Sunday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo.
The arrival of defense specialist Glenn Capacio to the coaching staff worked wonders for the FiberXers as they held the Giant Risers to only 18 points in the second quarter and 19 in the third to pull away for good.
Justin Arana led Converge, which won for the first time since its conference opener against Macau to go up to 2-5, with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, two rebounds, and three assists.
Juan Gomez De Liano added 15 points on 2-of-4 shooting on fours, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Kylor Kelley put up 10 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Calvin Abueva erupted from long range in his first game against his former team, going 4-for-5 on threes for 14 points with five rebounds and one assist off the bench.
Michael Gilmore had 26 points, 16 rebounds, one assist, and two steals to lead Titan Ultra, which dropped to 2-4.
