QUEZON CITY--Magnolia took advantage of the sudden absence of Justin Patton and mauled San Miguel, 120-101, in their PBA Commissioner's Cup sister team clash on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Two nights after dropping a tough loss in the Manila Clasico against Barangay Ginebra on a game-winning layup from RJ Abarrientos and the game-deciding turnover by Jerom Lastimosa, the Hotshots pounced on the Beermen, who were forced to play all-Filipino with Patton suddenly becoming unreachable since their tough loss to the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters.
With no import to worry about, Clint Chapman was all around the floor for Magnolia, leading the way with 34 points on 10-of-14 field goals including a perfect 3-for-3 on threes and 11-of-11 free throws, six rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.
Lastimosa played a near-perfect game with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, two rebounds, and six assists in a solid bounce back after the late blunder against Ginebra as the Purefoods franchise now tied its victim at 3-4.
CJ Perez had 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals for SMB.
