MANILA—Alyssa Valdez is back in Philippine colors as she once again represents the country in the AVC Women’s Cup, set from June 6-14 in Candon City.
In a thanksgiving lunch organized by Allianz for the three Rebisco-backed volleyball teams in the pro ranks, the longtime Creamline superstar essentially confirmed that she accepted a call-up to return to the team now known by the moniker Alas Pilipinas.
“I will never get tired of representing the country. Hopefully, makatulong tayo in our own little ways,” Valdez said on Wednesday inside Allianz's Philippine headquarters in One Ayala in Makati.
However, Valdez kept mum on other details amid reports that Alas began training on Tuesday, with Shaq Delos Santos currently handling the team due to Tai Bundit's injury.
"Yung mga details and other things, pasensya na. Wala rin akong masyadong alam, but definitely, once we all have the answers, we will all let you know
Alyssa Valdez last represented the country in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in 2023, where she served as team captain and the Philippines’ flag bearer.
Now, the 33-year-old open hitter is tasked once again with leading a young core ahead of Alas' home stand up north.
"Napakasaya to be surrounded by young, talented girls, and hopefully, dumami pa rin. Sana talaga magtulungan tayo to support these girls kasi sobra din yung pasasalamat natin," Valdez further said.
As of posting, there are no concrete details on the young guns called up for national team duty.
