TAGUIG CITY --- The top two spots in Groups B and C have been finalized following the simultaneous Round 3 matches on the final matchday of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.
Co-hosts Canada suffered their first defeat of the tournament against Switzerland, with the Swiss netting twice before Promise David pulled one back for the Canadians with a solo goal in the 76th minute.
Despite the loss, Canada still advanced to the Round of 32 courtesy of a superior goal differential, having finished with an identical win-draw-loss record to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, who had earlier defeated Qatar 3-1, also advanced to the knockout stages as one of the eight best third-placed teams, marking their most successful World Cup campaign since their debut in 2014.
Meanwhile, Qatar's early departure marked their second consecutive group-stage exit, following a similar fate as tournament hosts in the 2022 edition.
Elsewhere, five-time champions Brazil comfortably qualified for the Round of 32 with a 3-0 victory over Scotland, powered by a VinÃcius Júnior brace and a solo strike from Matheus Cunha.
With his two goals, VinÃcius Júnior entered the Golden Boot conversation, bringing his tournament tally to four goals alongside Norway's Erling Haaland and France's Kylian Mbappé.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco also officially punched their ticket to the Round of 32 after a thrilling 4-2 victory against Haiti.
Despite their heavy loss to Brazil, Scotland remains in contention to qualify for the knockout stage depending on the final third-place team standings.
