PASIG—Team USA made quick work of the Dominican Republic with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-12 win at the start of the Philippine leg of the VNL women's volleyball season on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.
While the Dominicans somehow tried to stand tall in the first two sets, the Americans dominated Set 3 to seal the straight-set win.
Despite the win, Jordan Thompson said that Team USA will need a much better performance in the next matches to finish Week 2 of the season strong.
"I think it wasn't the most fluent game for us. It wasn't always pretty, but I think what we did really well is we tried our way to get through it," said Thompson, who led the Americans with 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces.
Dana Rettke and Logan Eggleston each added 10 markers for Team USA, which moved up to 4-1 behind undefeated Brazil and Japan.
Yonkaira Peña led the Dominican Republic, still winless after five matches, with eight points on seven attacks and one ace.
