MANILA—John Amores is set to begin a possible redemption arc after signing a one-conference contract with Titan Ultra for the PBA Governors' Cup.
Danny Espiritu, Amores' agent, posted photos on Wednesday of the previously embattled shooting guard making his PBA return official, along with Jessica Arsolon, the Giant Risers' team manager.
Amores was in hot water in 2024 after he got entangled with Lee Cacalda in Lumban, Laguna following a pick-up game, leading to a gun shooting incident that became the basis for the attempted homicide case slapped against the former Jose Rizal University star and brother Red.
The Games and Amusements Board previously revoked Amores' professional athlete license amid the ongoing investigation, but the ban was eventually lifted when he and Cacalda reached a settlement.
A staple in pro-am bush leagues, also known as "ligang labas", while the GAB ban was still on, Amores was called up to the Titan Ultra practice as the process of getting his pro license back was ongoing.
Amores eventually got a new pro license earlier this week, paving the way for him to sign with the Giant Risers.
Amores' PBA playing rights were among those inherited by Titan Ultra when it bought the NorthPort franchise before the start of the season last September.
Veterans Von Pessumal and Joshua Munzon will also stay put with the Giant Risers after re-signing with them.
Amores' comeback will happen right at the opening game of the PBA Governors' Cup between Titan Ultra and Terrafirma on Friday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo.
