PASAY—RJ Abarrientos and Riley Grigsby led the way for Ginebra as it took down Meralco 84-75 in their PBA Governors' Cup game on Friday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Averaging only 11 points per outing entering the game, Abarrientos came alive with 27 points on 10 of 17 field goals, including 3 of 5 on threes, to lead the Gin Kings in scoring alongside three rebounds and three assists.
Grigsby added 25 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks as he and Abarrientos were Ginebra's offensive anchors.
However, the Gin Kings leaned on their stifling defense to shut down the Bolts to go 2-2 up in the standings, holding them to only 29 points by halftime and 10 in the first quarter.
Meralco also only shot 33.7 percent of its field goals, including a dismal 5-for-33 from long range.
Antonio Hester led the Bolts, who dropped back-to-back games to fall into a tie with the Blackwater Bossing for fourth place in Group B at 2-3, with 24 points, 18 rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
