MANILA—Rain or Shine parted ways with Gian Mamuyac after contract extension talks were not bearing fruit, ultimately sending the two-way guard to Phoenix in a trade approved by the PBA trade committee on Thursday.

With the Elasto Painters' guard rotation still loaded even without Mamuyac, they opted to take a future asset in exchange, acquiring the Fuel Masters' first-round pick for the PBA Season 53 Draft scheduled in 2029.

To sweeten the pot, Phoenix got an extra second-round pick for the 2029 draft, the one that should originally belong to ROS.

Mamuyac's camp could not agree on terms with the Elasto Painters regarding a new contract, as the former was seeking a paycheck bigger than what the latter could offer at most.

The trade will see Mamuyac joining a retooled Fuel Master guard lineup following the exit of Evan Nelle in a previous trade with the NLEX Road Warriors.

Mamuyac is scheduled to begin his Phoenix journey on Sunday night against the debuting Ginebra at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Fuel Masters, though, will play the Elasto Painters next two evenings later at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo, which means Mamuyac will quickly face his former team.

In what would be his last game with ROS, Mamuyac tallied solid numbers of 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists off the bench, but it was not enough to keep his old team from getting mauled by Blackwater in their PBA Governors' Cup debut last Saturday night.

The Elasto Painters begin life without Mamuyac on Saturday night against the Meralco Bolts at the Ynares Center 1.
