MANILA—The Philippine Men's National Football Team failed to replicate their 5-1 result from last June's friendly against Myanmar, as the latter claimed the full three points with a 4-1 win over the home side in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas on a rainy Tuesday night.
The 153rd-ranked Burmese side scored two goals in the first half, giving them a comfortable advantage before heading to the dugout.
Kyaw Min Oo was left unguarded on the left flank, making his header for the away side to score their early goal against the Philippines in the 7th minute through the corner kick.
Then, Myanmar's second goal came from Noah Leddel's crucial error from his free kick.
After the ball was caught by Mg Mg Win, he located the free-running Than Paing, who easily booted the second goal for Myanmar in the 28th minute.
The PMNFT had the chance to score from a penalty after a foul in the box, but the referee overturned it after a VAR review in the 33rd minute.
Javier Mariona found Kenji Nishioka, but Nishioka failed to convert their first goal of the night after the ball went straight to the crossbar in the 54th minute.
He also tried to score through a tap after he was located by team captain Daisuke Sato in the 66th minute, but it went off-target.
Mariona later found Jarvey Gayoso in the 67th minute, and he converted his tap-in to give the Philippines some momentum.
However, Win Naing Tun scored the dagger in the 81st minute, and two minutes later, Than completed his brace, extinguishing PMNFT's run to come back.
The Philippines will go to Vientiane to face Laos on Saturday, while Myanmar will try to score their second win against Laos as well on Tuesday.
