MANILA --- The Philippine Men's National Football Team formally ended their ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 conquest after a 1-0 loss vs. Malaysia in the final group stage match in Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Saturday night.
Thailand and Malaysia will proceed to the semifinals of this edition for Group B while Vietnam and Singapore also qualified after passing Group A.
The Philippines left the conversation only earned a win vs. Laos (4-1) while losing all three matches against Myanmar (1-4), Thailand (0-1) and this 0-1 loss vs. Malaysia missing semifinal slot for the first time since 2024.
The rare occasional duel was separated in the 16th minute goal by Gunalan Pavithran through his header after being left unmarked by the Filipino-defense.
Jarvey Gayoso tried to equalize in the 19th minute but his header from the freekick feed went wide.
Pocholo Bugas also launched his attempt from outside the box after winning against Malaysian defender but it too high in the 75th minute.
The 2010 champions made them to the semifinals for the 5th time alongside with top ASEAN team, Thailand, who earlier dismantled the fiery-hot team of Myanmar in two goals all converted from spot kicks.
Next for the PMNFT will be the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup where the Philippines will face Vietnam, Pakistan, and Thailand in Group B of the Premier Division and the Asian Games for the under-23 team - all will start on September.
