QUEZON CITY—Onic Philippines showed resilience in the clutch to score a 2-0 sweep against AP Bren in their MPL Philippines Season 18 match on Sunday night at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Down 3-6 in the opening game, Onic PH turned things around with a 9-0 kill run in the late game to go 1-0 up in the best-of-three series.
Onic PH then started Game 2 strong to go close to sweeping AP Bren sooner, but James "Jamespangks" Mendoza, back to playing Suyou, somehow got his groove late to spark a potential comeback.
However, a game-deciding wipeout instigated by Czedrick "Super Yoshi" Romero pulling out Joemarie "Escalera" Delos Santos from initiating the Wrath of Dyrad sealed Onic PH's sweep.
Onic PH will finish Week 1 of the season perfect both in match standings at 2-0 and in game standings at 4-0 as Angelo "Phewww" Arcangel's head coaching debut is off to a great start.
AP Bren, on the other hand, dropped to fourth place at 1-1 with a minus-1 game difference.
