MANILA—Even if tropical cyclone "Maymay" has already dissipated, the stormy weather in Mega Manila remains imminent enough that the PBA decided to call off its scheduled doubleheader at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The league announced on Sunday, hours before tip-off, the postponement of the games, which would have pitted Phoenix and Rain or Shine in the curtain-raiser and Ginebra and Blackwater in the nightcap.
The weather advisory came two days after the heavy rains caused a leak at the roof of the said arena that prompted the PBA to put a stop to the game between Magnolia and Meralco.
The game eventually pushed through after about 40 minutes, with the Hotshots prevailing.
The week before that, stormy weather led to the flooding of a section of Adriatico Street just outside the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, leaving fans and team personnel stranded for a while.
With the postponement in place, the Elasto Painters and Bossing are now entering a long break due to Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and Asian Games.
Meanwhile, the Fuel Masters will play the Hotshots on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center 1 in Antipolo in their last game before the Gilas break, which is also timely since head coach Charles Tiu will join Strong Group Athletics in the Jones Cup two nights after.
The Gin Kings are down to a Friday night meeting against the Bolts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City before head coach Tim Cone shifts his attention to Gilas.
