MANILA—The MPBL meted a humongous penalty to Caloocan after missing the trip to the metropolitan General Santos area last week.
In a statement on Friday, the league slapped the Batang Kankaloo with a PHP5 million fine for forfeiting their scheduled game against the Biñan Tatak Gel on Saturday night at the Polomolok Gymnasium in South Cotabato.
The MPBL also stripped Caloocan of the rights to host whatever is left of its home stands in the regular season.
Curiously enough, the Batang Kankaloo are left with just one home game, a Tuesday night showdown against the Batangas City Athletics.
As of posting, the league has yet to determine if both teams will swap hosting rights and play their game instead at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.
It is also possible that the game could be played at either the FilOil Centre in San Juan City or the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena as the Knights and Huskers are also involved in the entire fight card.
San Juan is scheduled to face Bulacan in the first game of the tripleheader, while Quezon looks to continue its late dash to steal the South Division top seed away from Biñan against Zamboanga in the second.
The league then warned Caloocan that another forfeiture offense could lead to heavier penalties.
"The MPBL considers the forfeiture a serious matter and has taken into account its impact to the league," the MPBL said in the statement.
It then vowed, "The MPBL remains committed to ensuring that all franchise owners are accountable for meeting their responsibilities to the league, its stakeholders, and most importantly, our fans."
