QUEZON CITY—Team Falcons Philippines survived a huge surprise from TNC to win 2-1 in their MPL Philippines Season 18 second-round meeting on Friday night at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Technically a no-bearing match already for the team since it had already locked in the sixth seed ahead of the playoffs following AP Bren's loss to Smart Omega earlier Friday, TNC still wanted to give Falcons PH something they didn't see coming as the former overcame a wipeout in the first Lord fight by taking a 4-1 clash win for the evolved Lord.
Falcons PH tried to defend its base, but TNC completed the endable push in the middle lane to take Game 1.
Falcons PH raced to a hot start in Game 2, going 16-1 up on kills with a 13,000-gold lead a little over 11 minutes in.
TNC still tried to pull off a massive comeback, but Nowee "Ryota" Macasa and Jomari "Jowm" Pingol's late efforts fell short.
TNC sizzled early into Game 3 and just needed one Lord secure to pull off the huge upset, but a game-deciding Lord steal by Michael "Kyle" Sayson sealed Falcons PH's comeback to complete the reverse sweep.
Falcons PH's win moved the team up to 12-1, putting much pressure on Team Liquid Philippines, which will play Onic Philippines later Friday, in the race for the top seed ahead of the playoffs.
TNC, on the other hand, finished the regular season with a 4-10 record as the club also looks forward to the postseason festivities.
