Some of the coolest April Fools Day news in sports

TODAY, we mark the day where most of the news we see are just for pranks. So I compiled some of the "hottest" sports satires this year. Turns out, they could be preludes to real events.

Messi to Madrid

Goal.com first pulled the trigger as it reported a 500 million Euro transfer of Barcelona star Lionel Messi to Liga BBVA rival Real Madrid to team up with Cristiano Ronaldo. The humor article somewhat came at an opportune time as both clubs will face off on Sunday (Philippine Time) at the latter's turf. While the news was obviously a prank, transfer rumors have actually been swirling around Messi since late last year with a potential reunion project with former mentor Pep Guardiola and Argentinian teammates Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta at Barclays Premier League giant Manchester City being the likeliest of scenarios.

PBA "trades"

Of course, April Fools Day in Philippine sports will not be complete without fictitious PBA transfers. One such example is a news about a Terrence Romeo-Mark Barroca trade by PBA Memes. However, thanks to a new rule set by Commissioner Chito Narvasa, April 1 turns out to be the trade deadline for the ongoing Commissioner's Cup. No real trade was made as of posting, which may likely mean all the 12 teams will stick with their respective rosters until the end of the conference.

The F-League

Football fans may have probably said "WTF" after football blog The Perfect Pass said that the proposed national league likely to start next year will be named the Filipinas League or simply the F-League. But if you think this is just something to be taken for granted, think again. The said blog's April Fools Day article last year became a foretelling of sorts as Stephan Schrock indeed signed a loan deal with reigning UFL champion Ceres. So let me give you some time to ponder about the name F-League.

Steph is Filipino?

Lifestyle blog-turned-trending news site When in Manila dropped a bomb of sorts as it revealed that Golden State star Stephen Curry was found to have Filipino blood as per an organization that goes by the acronym ANAKNGP. If you still did not find out what kind of news WIM made as per the government org's acronym, I don't know how to react.

Parks, Clarkson coming to town!

The last cool news I read during April Fools Day was that of Pinoy Balleros. The report said that Ray-Ray Parks and Jordan Clarkson have already agreed to join Gilas for the OQT this July. While this satirical article can still become a reality, the chance of it really happening is small especially in the case of the Lakers' rising star as Coach Tab Baldwin told the press after one Gilas practice that Clarkson's status is in doubt.
