Ceres' league defense back on track after routine mauling of Nomads

UFL

MANILA--Just four days after winning their AFC Cup group with a bang, Ceres' defense of the UFL title were back on track, smashing a hapless Nomads side in a routine 6-0 mauling on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial.

Surprise starter Nate Burkey notched a hat-trick for Frank Muescan for their second consecutive blowout in all competitions after blasting past Sheikh Jamal in Bacolod  to top Group F unbeaten.

Orman Okunaiya, Marvin Angeles, and Bienvenido Marañón also found the net for the Busmen, who played the remaining half-hour of the match with ten men with Lee Jeong-Woo given the marching orders as they finally barged on to the win column after absorbing a shock defeat to Loyola on opening week.

Nomads' netminder Joshua Cruz spared their blushes as his goalkeeping denied Ceres a repeat of their embarrasing setback in the Cup on Valentine's Day, as they just let in two-fifths of the goals conceded when the two first met.
