TEHRAN--Jolo Mendoza sizzled from deep to help Batang Gilas fend off Iraq, 96-79, in the FIBA Asia U18 Championship on Saturday night.
Mendoza dropped four straight triples in the first half to help the Philippine team pull away from a slow start en route to the blowout.
Mendoza finished with seven triples and ended up with 25 points for Batang Gilas, which bounced back from a stunning defeat to Chinese Taipei in their opener.

The said victory also gave the RP youth squad a 3-0 sweep of their Saturday assignments as their 3X3 team won back-to-back games in Kuala Lumpur.

Ihab Al-Zuhairi carried the fight for Iraq, which was dealt a 28-93 defeat by China on Friday night, with 39 points, 24 rebounds, one assist, three blocks, and three steals.
