QUEZON CITY--Rey Guevarra successfully defended his PBA All-Star Slam Dunk title against Chris Newsome in an all-Meralco final at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday night.

Guevarra and Newsome assured the battle between Bolts after dominating the preliminary stage, ousting NLEX's James Forrester and Ginebra's Franklin Bonifacio.

Forrester opened the final round with a self alley-oop after juggling three balls, which earned him a 46.

But Guevarra's between-the-legs, 180-degree one-hander from the right corner wowed the judges that include former multi-titled slam dunk champ KG Canaleta, who finished as runner-up in the 3-Point Shootout earlier Friday, that he got a perfect 50 for the dunk.

Newsome got his own 50 in his next dunk, a 360 off an alley-oop from former Hapee teammate Scottie Thompson, who bounced the ball at the side of the backboard.

However, Guevarra's slam over Raymond Almazan and Jericho Cruz, who served as hurdles, was enough for him to retain the plum as he got a 47.
