PASIG--Despite some off-court drama, the Bureau of Customs debuted in the Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference with a bang, sweeping University of the Philippines in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22, on Monday night at the PhilSports Arena.
The Transformers withstood playing virtually all-Filipino with their Thai imports Kanjana Kuthaisong and Natthanicha Jaisaen not getting clearance to play because their ITC's are not yet released and having two of their locals getting hefty sanctions for defying an order from the PSL and quickly turned back the Lady Maroons in their first match as a V-League club.
Alyssa Valdez led BOC with 18 points, while Rose Vargas added 17. Lilet Mabbayad, one of two players who were penalized by PSL and even by their other club Navy, chipped in 10.
Nicole Tiamzon led UP with 15.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas clinched its second win after waylaying Philippine Coast Guard, 25-16, 25-10, 25-23.
EJ Laure paced the Tigresses, who were without Sisi Rondina, with 12 markers.
Sam Dawson, on the other hand, led the Coast Guards with eight points.
