"Due to contractual issues, we regretfully have no choice but to cancel the event," Zamora said in a statement.

The Nickel Asia founder further lamented, "We were very excited to bring this event to the Philippines. It would have been the start of bigger things for Philippine golf. However, circumstances beyond our control caused this cancellation."

Those who bought their tickets to the said match can now contact SM tickets for the refund.

Meanwhile, despite the cancellation, the mining magnate vowed to further push Philippine golf.

In fact, he revealed that the Puerto Azul Golf & Country Club in Ternate is currently being redeveloped in preparation for the 2018 European Tour.

He is also developing a junior golf academy to support young Filipino golfers.
