MANILA -- For a battle between two raptors, this one is a clear mismatch.

Ateneo showed to Adamson why they are the bigger bird in their opening match of the new UAAP season, with the Blue Eagles clawing the grounded Falcons apart for a 4-0 whitewash Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

After a slow first half, the Katipunan booters turned up the heat at the restart to take all three points by knocking out Adamson with three goals in a 15-minute stretch to go ahead of FEU, who won their opener against UST, in the table on superior goal difference.

In a virtually one-sided affair, sophomore forward Jarvey Gayoso scored on both halves for a brace to zoom ahead of the Golden Boot race early on in the season and taking the pole position in the league table to cap off the first weekend of the college football season.

Ateneo gaffer Jaypee Merida started the match with five freshmen on the field and three of them stood out. Iñigo Herrera and Samuel Lim got on the scoresheet and goalkeeper AJ Arcilla notching his clean sheet in their first career UAAP game together.

It took just four minutes for Gayoso to score first for Ateneo, intercepting a weak Adamson pass to dribble past their defence and fired the ball home to the bottom left corner of Jim Viray's net.

But it turned out to be the only strike at the first half with Adamson clamping on their back line since then and freshman Enzo Ceniza muffing two chances as the half ended with Ateneo leading by the slimmest of scorelines.

Herrera lighted up the 12th man of Blue and White 12 minutes at the restart with a thumping free kick that hit the crossbar and beyond the goalline to double Ateneo's advantage.

Lim made sure of the maximum points in the 67th minute after making good use of Julian Roxas' through-ball, going past two defenders and hits the ball low on Viray once again to make it 3-0. And four minutes later, Gayoso got his brace with a lob from the middle of their own half that got the Ateneo supporters on their feat.
