BANTAY--San Beda-Taytay showed why it is the reigning NCAA and STCAA high school football champion down the stretch.

The Red Cubs stole a 2-1 win against CAR in the Palarong Pambansa secondary football quarterfinals at the Quirino Stadium on Thursday.

Seemed to be on the verge of a huge upset loss, San Beda-Taytay found the net in stoppage time to break the hearts of CAR, led by Allianz Junior Football Camp alumnus Aeron Tenollar.

Vicente Shran opened the scoring festivities for CAR with a 21st minute goal to shock San Beda-Taytay, which struggled to find the goal for most of the match.

However, Sam Chavez made the game interesting right at the start of the second half added time, when he drilled in a close-range shot to make it 1-all.

And with just three seconds left in the five-minute added time, Christian Gonzales scored on a header off a corner kick to complete the comeback.

The Red Cubs will face SOCCSKSARGEN, which edged Northern Mindanao in the earlier game, in the semifinals later Thursday.
