BIÑAN—The Philippines Football League expressed in a statement why the scheduled match between Global Makati and Mendiola was called off and subsequently abandoned.

"The incident was caused by a match organizational issue which falls under the responsibility of the home team," the PFL said on Saturday night, hours after the match cancellation.

With the University of Makati Athletic Oval still unavailable as of present, Global Makati, the designated host, had to play its home games elsewhere, choosing the Biñan Football Stadium as the venue for the said abandoned match and the one prior to it against Air Force on Wednesday, which was won by Global Makati.

The league did not divulge the issue Global Makati got into that led to the abandonment, but a person privy of the situation said that it had something to do with a key prerequisite for the match to push through.

Team owner Mark Jarvis was seen rushing to the officials' table to settle the matter, but he came a bit too late as Match Commissioner Ebong Joson already declared the abandonment.

"The status of the said match shall be referred to the LFI board for its decision," the PFL's statement continued.

But the league clarified, "This is simply an isolated case which shall be dealt with immediately and accordingly."
