PASAY CITY - A young gunner is happy to heed the call of national duty.

Robert Bolick confirmed Saturday night at the Cuneta Astrodome that he was invited to practice by Gilas Pilipinas.

"Yes, pinapapunta ako ngayong Monday. Syempre pag pinapapunta ka ng ganun, kahit ano man mangyari, kahit anong gagawin ko basta pag tinawag ako pupunta ako talaga," Bolick said.

Bolick was quick to ask permission from the NorthPort management if he can show up for the Gilas practice on Monday night.

The Batang Pier management agreed.

"Nagpaalam na din ako sa management [ng North Port], pumayag naman sila so I will be practicing on Monday. Basta pag na-invite ka, iba na yung opportunity na yun e. Syempre, Pilipinas yun so ibibigay ko talaga kung ano man kailangan," Bolick added.

The news of his invitation to practice with Gilas came a day after Jayson Castro confirmed that he will no longer suit up for the national team.

Bolick is one of the hopefuls seen by experts as a replacement for Castro's spot in the national pool.

"Hindi mo mapapalitan ang Jayson Castro e. When I heard the news, sabi ko malaking blow talaga na mawawala sya. We have to respect his decision kasi it’s for his family. He has given too much for the Philippines, ngayon, may mga anak pa sya and he just got married, I think it’s time for us to give him, bigay na natin sa kanya yung time na hinihingi nya. Sa akin naman, I’ll just do my best, kung ako ba talaga or hindi. Kung saan ako iaano, ibibigay ko lang talaga," Bolick concluded.
