MANILA—San Miguel's bid for a sixth PBA Philippine Cup title suffered a huge blow when the team announced on Wednesday that June Mar Fajardo will sit out the entire conference.

"San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo suffered a complete fracture on his right tibia during team practice last February 3," the team said in a statement, adding that the 6-foot-10 center is out indefinitely, meaning the timetable for his return is not yet determined.

However, the Beermen added, "He underwent successful surgery last February 4 and will be scheduled to go through post-operation rehabilitation to allow him to recover at the soonest possible time."

They further said that Fajardo "is also saddened that he may not be able to join any upcoming international competitions."

Fajardo was interestingly cut from the Gilas Pilipinas Men pool for the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers with the SBP explaining that "he deserves the extended break."

San Miguel's statement concluded, "The San Miguel Beermen management is committed to ensuring that June Mar will get the best medical care."

Fajardo is a prime candidate for the MVP award, his sixth if he gets the nod, which will be given at the start of the new season on March 1.

Interestingly enough, the Beermen will face off with sister club Magnolia Hotshots in the first game of Season 45 also on the said night.
