BATANGAS CITY—Ginebra bounced back from an ugly start to its PBA Philippine Cup campaign by venting ire on Meralco for a 99-91 win on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Justin Brownlee was back to his explosive self, while Scottie Thompson recovered from a one-point output on Wednesday night against the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters as the Gin Kings asserted their mastery over the Bolts in their first meeting since the latter finally slayed the giant that is the former in the Philippine Cup quarterfinals.

Brownlee finished with 34 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Thompson flirted with a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists with three steals and a block for Ginebra, which moved up to 1-1.

Johnny O'Bryant put up 31 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal, Allein Maliksi added 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal, and Raymond Almazan put up a double-double of his own of 10 points on perfect 3-for-3 field goals and 4-for-4 free throws and 11 rebounds with two assists for Meralco, which fell to 0-2.
