QUEZON CITY—Terrence Romeo took over for San Miguel in the fourth quarter as the team put an end to Phoenix's hot streak in the PBA Commissioner's Cup through a 117-96 win on Christmas night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Romeo sizzled for 15 points in the final frame even as the Beermen pulled away from the Fuel Masters with a 38-16 fourth period.
Romeo finished with 22 points, three rebounds, eight assists, and two steals to backstop the debuting Bennie Boatwright, who led SMB with 26 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
The win formally gave the Beermen, now at 6-3 with three straight wins, a seat in the quarterfinals.
Johnathan Williams fired 37 points on 15-of-18 shooting, 16 rebounds, two assists, and one block for Phoenix, which saw its six-game winning streak come to an end even as the team fell to 7-2.
