MANILA--The MPBL had to pull the plug on its supposed triple-header on Tuesday as Metro Manila is currently experiencing heavy rains due to Typhoon "Carina".

In a statement, the regional league explained that "the health and safety of the teams, working staff, and fans are of utmost importance to the league."

Four teams with playoff aspirations were supposed to play later in the night at the San Andres Sports Complex looking to boost their postseason drive.

Iloilo, just one game behind Negros for the eighth seed in the South Division, was to play Sarangani in the first game, Valenzuela, looking to move up to solo eighth in the North Division, was to take on Marikina in the second game, and Manila, currently fourth in the North, was to host Zamboanga, second in the South, in the main game.

Based on MPBL rules, postponed games, particularly those with huge playoff implications, could be moved to a later date.

Despite Mega Manila already feeling the ravage of the storm, the league pushed through with its Monday night triple-header at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando City, Pampanga.

Muntinlupa kept its playoff hopes alive with a 64-60 win against Bulacan, which was officially eliminated in the process, Negros crawled back from 18 points down to stun Pangasinan, 87-86, and Pampanga clobbered Batangas City at home, 88-62.

The MPBL will not hold games on Wednesday night and will resume play on Thursday night, assuming the weather becomes better, at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Bacolod takes on Imus in a battle of cellar-dwelling teams at 4 p.m., Pasay, fresh from handing Quezon its first loss of the season, takes on Nueva Ecija in a rematch of their playoff first-round series last year at 6 p.m., and San Juan battling host Caloocan at 8 p.m. in a potential first-round preview.
