MANILA--Aurora placed one step nearer a first-round bye in the MPL Philippines playoffs after ripping Smart Omega, 2-0, in a crucial regular season clash on Saturday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.

Inspired to give head coach Ariel "Master The Basics" Jiandani a win on his birthday, Aurora showed two facets of its gameplay to cripple Smart Omega.

Aurora used a dominating early game to secure the opener of the best-of-three tie and then turned things around with a huge mid-game clash in Game 2 that slowed down Smart Omega's early game brilliance significantly as Dominic "Domengkite" Del Mundo's Harith took over the late game to steal the win.

Aurora moved to a momentary tie at the top with Team Liquid Philippines at 10-1 ahead of the latter's grudge match against defending champion Onic Philippines later Saturday.

Meanwhile, Smart Omega failed to keep its momentum from its Friday night win against Twisted Minds Philippines and fell to 2-10.

The result means Twisted Minds PH, which swept AP Bren earlier in the day, will end Week 7 in sixth place with their hopes of making the postseason still pretty much in its control.
