Liquid PH fought back from 0-2 to stay in the upper bracket. MPL Philippines |
MANILA--Just when everyone thought the two teams that needed to grind it out in the play-in games would eventually end up in the MPL Philippines upper bracket finals, Team Liquid Philippines showed why it was the overall top seed of the playoffs.
Liquid PH prevented a 3-versus-4 UB finals similar to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals from happening after crawling back from 0-2 down to beat Team Falcons Philippines in the second UB semis on Thursday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.
Falcons PH looked poised to pull off a shock sweep against longtime rival Liquid PH after racing to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five affair.
However, Liquid PH regained its composure and scored the next two wins to force Game 5.
A tricky draft to have David "FlapTzy" Canon play Zhuxin at the EXP lane appeared to have worked early into the decider, especially with Rowgien "Owgwen" Unido delivering solid setups with his Shortcut, leading to "Super Marco" Requitiano getting eight kills in an instant.
Liquid PH's comeback, though, began in the first Lord fight when Alston "Sanji" Pabico successfully pulled off a Diversion play that led to Requitiano's Legendary streak getting snapped and Michael "KyleTzy" Sayson taken down as well.
The clincher came at the 17th minute when another Diversion move led to two more kills from Liquid PH, and with solid map control, the team was able to finish off the match a few seconds later.
Liquid PH set up a Friday night showdown against Onic Philippines, also a 3-2 winner in its own UB semifinals, in the UB finals, where one MLBB Midseason Cup spot is on the line, aside from a place in Sunday night's grand finals.
Falcons PH, on the other hand, will face Aurora in the lower bracket semifinals, where survival is at stake.
