MANILA--Make that two former Converge players heading to TNT this week.
A day after the PBA approved the Jordan Heading-Mikey Williams trade, the Tropang 5G also acquired Mike Nieto from the FiberXers through the free agency route.
TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirmed the development on Tuesday, adding that the team took the opportunity after Converge relegated the six-foot-two swingman to the unrestricted free agent list.
Nieto, who has successfully transitioned from a burly yet undersized big man in his high school days to a solid contributor at the wing, joins a Tropang 5G squad which is needing more boost in its guard rotation with Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac out due to injuries.
Nieto, though, is injured himself as a dislocated finger kept him out during the FiberXers' campaign in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.
However, if they are both good to go, Nieto and Heading could be activated as early as Friday night when TNT faces Blackwater.
The Tropang 5G, currently at 5-3, need to win their remaining games to essentially assure them of a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
