QUEZON CITY--Embattled former PBA player John Amores remains hopeful that he will make his return to professional basketball.
In an interview with Zeus Valdez over Abante News Online on Monday night, the off guard, currently embroiled in an attempted homicide case since last year, confirmed that he is asking the Games and Amusements Board to reconsider the revocation of his professional athlete license, which stemmed from his ongoing lawsuit.
"Nag-appeal talaga ako, and parang magwa-one month na yata rin akong nag-aantay ng sagot nila kung ano bang mangyayari kung makakabalik pa ba ako sa paglalaro," Amores said.
Currently out on bail, the six-foot-two winger, who last played for NorthPort before GAB handed the permanent ban last December, resorts to playing in bush leagues for a living.
However, the Pagsanjan native said that the profit he is getting there is not enough.
"Wala din akong talagang sapat na kinikitang income as a basketball player. Dalawa na yung anak ko, kaya mas gusto ko pa rin talagang makabalik sa paglalaro. Doon na yung talagang buhay ko," Amores further said.
He then hopes that the Batang Pier will welcome him back with open arms, especially since his rookie contract with them runs until next year.
Amores went under fire last September when he and his brother Red pointed a gun at Lee Cacalda moments after tensions rose during a pick-up basketball game in Lumban, Laguna.
Cacalda slapped both Amoreses with attempted homicide cases, and they were imprisoned for a day before they posted bail.
The PBA slapped John Amores with a ban that initially lasted for the entire Commissioner's Cup last season before GAB effectively upgraded the suspension into a permanent one.
