LOS BANOS--Aurora Philippines continued to wax hot in MPL Philippines Season 16 as the team capped Week 6 with a dominating 2-0 win against Team Liquid Philippines on Monday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.
Already securing a playoff spot two nights ago, Aurora PH wanted more, beating a team currently in second place for the second time in the same matchweek in yet another potential preview of the grand finals.
Minutes after Jan "Shizou" Valdez successfully played Obsidia in AP Bren's shock sweep against Onic Philippines, Kiel "Oheb" Soriano tried his luck in playing the new Mobile Legends Bang Bang hero in Game 1 against Aurora PH.
However, he and the entire Liquid PH quintet were met with an early domination from Aurora PH with four kills in the first two and a half minutes of Game 1.
Aurora PH's lead swelled to a 19-2 kill scoreline, and after just one Lord acquisition, the team finished Game 1 off in a little under 11 minutes.
Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno's bid to steal the first turtle of Game 2 somehow backfired as Aurora PH, despite letting Nepomuceno get the turtle, killed him and two others to begin yet another early game brilliance.
With Aurora PH once again leading big early on, the team just took one Lord push again to diffuse Liquid PH in Game 2.
Aurora PH is now on a 9-match winning streak, making them four consecutive wins away from matching the league record set by Onic PH last year in Season 14.
Liquid PH, on the other hand, dropped to 7-4, keeping the door open for Onic PH to reclaim second place, which means a first-round bye as action shifts to the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay next month for the playoffs.
Despite the team's Monday night loss, the watch party set at K-Go Korean Food House was a resounding success with good-sized crowds inside the restaurant on back-to-back evenings.
