| Omar Trinidad hits an uppercut to Jerwin Ancajas. Zuffa Boxing |
MANILA—Despite losing, Jerwin Ancajas showed toughness down the stretch and sent his 10-round battle against undefeated opponent Omar Trinidad to the distance in one of the main attractions of Zuffa Boxing 8 on Monday (Philippine Time) at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
The former junior featherweight champ had a great start to his debut in Zuffa Boxing, delivering solid shots to Trinidad and keeping the bout close in the first half.
However, come the last 15 minutes, Trinidad proved that his unbeaten record, now at 21 wins and two draws, is no fluke, dominating Ancajas with solid combinations that staggered him.
The big moment came with a little over a minute left in the final round when Trinidad hit Ancajas with a right hook that made the latter groggy.
As Trinidad continued to make the most of a still dizzy Ancajas, referee Tony Weeks looked to be calling a knockout.
However, Ancajas showed heart and was able to make it to the end of Round 10.
In a rare time that all three judges had similar scorecards, Eric Cheek, Patricia Jarman, and Chris Migliore all had it 97-93 for Trinidad.
Ancajas dropped to 38-5-2 as the 34-year-old ring veteran saw his four-fight winning streak snapped.
Earlier in the card, Jaybrio Pe Benito suffered his first career defeat after he dropped to Tony Hirsch via a third-round knockout.
With the outcomes, the Philippines went 0-2 in the eighth edition of the Zuffa Boxing fight card series.
